Late May

Catching up in late May.

May 20, 2026 Welcome to my page. A little wren has moved into the birdhouse hanging on the garage. It has been up for about 2 months. Sandy brought it in as a gift when she visited in February. It's quite cute, but cuter with a little wren peeking out. Now I am concerned these warm days that she doesn't get too hot. I had stopped feeding the birds a couple of weeks ago, but when I saw we had an occupant, I bought a bag of no-waste food. All the squirrels are back, some sparrows and of course a couple of wrens. I really enjoy feeding them quite a lot. And I love their songs.

The month has flown by quickly so I will just mention a couple of things we have enjoyed this month. At the 5/5 Capitol celebration of the National Day of Prayer: Canadians Rosemary Siemens and her husband Eli Bennett sang a beautiful song that they composed, "Path to Prayer." It's on the YouTube channel, Fox News: Speaker Johnson delivers remarks at the National Day of Prayer, beginning about 55:37. https://www.youtube.com/live/FrfkabccVFo?si=7NfjWX6gdXsuiej8&t=3337

I also watched Dr. Ben Carson speak with Dr. Lee Warren, neurosurgeon and author, on YouTube channel “Common Sense with Dr. Ben Carson.” Our thinking actually rewires our brains.  https://youtu.be/Zj7HItANEeU?si=bvKJK_qELsWU5C0U

Romans 12:2, Don’t be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Last Sunday my sister and I had lunch with our brothers Don & Ed at Rich's Café to celebrate both of their birthdays as Ed missed Don's birthday while he was gone two months in the hospital and in rehab. We didn't realize they close at 2p on Sundays, so we just made it in time. I enjoyed the senior 2 piece fish special with green beans and coleslaw. It was yummy. Ed had a breaded pork tenderloin and fries, but he only nibbled on it. We drove through Foster Park on the way home. We all have a lot of memories over the years there. The best are our picnics with mom. We walked there and carried our picnic lunch.

Today I trimmed the flowering bush at the back door. The squirrels had broken a couple of branches with their jumping in and out of it this winter. I also worked on filling the garden box that I had moved last week to the back of the yard. I'm about half done with that.

I have been following the 50 Days of Prayer for Our Nation daily updates. One pastor prays each day from one of the 50 states. Today's state was Colorado.

My favorite recipe I tried this month was Baked Cod with Panko by Claire at "through the fibro fog." It's perfect for us because it uses frozen cod filets. Sometimes our suppers are last minute decisions. I'm hoping to move on from that.

I also enjoyed making a couple of rhubarb custard pies. I'm using Crisco now for my crusts instead of butter as I always had because Phyllis is moving toward a heart healthy diet after two stents last fall. I am using olive oil to make cookies, but could not move to oil for crusts yet.

That's all for now. I'm thanking God for all his blessings to all of us. Let's
give him the glory for the things he has done.
